Advanced Computing Laboratory (ACL)
The Advanced Computing Laboratory continues as a world-class high-performance computing research center. The ACL remains steadfast in its commitment to: -
enable the solution of complex problems of importance to science, national defense, industry, and society;
be the focus of research, development, and deployment for advanced computing at Los Alamos National Laboratory;
be a significant test bed facility for advanced technologies;
and be a leader in developing and using computational and information technologies.
Significant changes in the hardware platform have been evolving to better assure the ACL computing community of a viable, stable advanced computing environment. The ACL is
currently in the process of moving from the massively parallel CM-5 and T3D platforms to an SGI/Cray Origin 2000 based platform. Beginning in the spring, access to the new machines is restricted to individuals who are participating in the following DOE programs:-
Accelerated Strategic Computing Initiative (ASCI)
DOE Computer Hardware, Advanced Mathematics, and
Model Physics (CHAMMP),
DOE Grand Challenges,
High Performance Computing and Communications projects,
ACL/LANL sponsored projects
