EPSCoR - South Dakota
Administering National Science Foundation - sponsored scientific research under the auspices of EPSCoR for the state of South Dakota.
The EPSCoR program in South Dakota is a three-way partnership among the National Science Foundation, the governor's Office of Economic Development, and South Dakota's public universities, designed to enhance the state's scientific research competitiveness. During the period 1992-1995, approximately $10 million will be invested in the Advanced Development Program, after the introductory phase during 1989-1992 which involved $3.6 million. The Advanced Development Program has two components:
1) Infrastructure Improvement: achievement of permanent changes in the state science infrastructure to enable scientists to conduct nationally competitive research and to obtain outside funding; and
2) Scientific Research: funding of specific research projects at The University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University, and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Several of the projects involve collaboration between scientists at different institutions, making EPSCoR -South Dakota a truly cooperative venture in higher education for the state.
