South Dakota School of Mines and Technology will celebrate its

            31st Annual E-Week - February 17-23, 2008

The faculty, staff, and students at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology join forces with the practicing engineers of the Black Hills Chapter of South Dakota Engineering Society, the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, scientists this year to have 30 great events to celebrate its 30th year of Engineers Week , and K-12 teachers, to show students that science, math and engineering are fun and exciting.

Issues Affecting Wind Power Development in South Dakota” by Mike Trykowski

Sponsored by South Dakota Engineering Society (SDES), Black Hills Chapter

Mr. Trykowski is Chair of the Board of the South Dakota Energy Infrastructure Authority (SDEIA),

which was created by the state Legislature in 2005 to assist with energy development in

South Dakota. The SDEIA recently published the South Dakota Wind Power Report, a publication

that explores the issues affecting wind power development in the state. He will be speaking

on the findings of the report that can be found at the SDEIA website: www.sdeia.com.

Lunch will be paid for the first 60 students who make an advanced reservation.

The local contest is sponsored by SDSM&T Theta Tau Fraternity. Judges and prizes are

furnished by the local chapter of the American Society for Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

 "Chemistry - What Floats Your Boat?" (A 50-minute show)

9:00 a.m., 10:00a.m., and 11:00a.m. –   Surbeck Center Ballroom

 

The students, staff, and faculty in the Chemistry Department, South Dakota

School of Mines and Technology have combined efforts to generate a great

show with lots of “glitz”, pops, fire and amazing colors due  to chemistry 

phenomenon.  They will --

?fire a cannon without fire,  

?produce light  from a pickle 

?make sound visible using fire 

?make flowers turn into dust 

 ?and oh, so much more!!

Every year they add new experiments to their repertoire.

retired from Black Hills Power in 1969 after working for 17 years in a Rapid City maintenance

shop and power plant.
