Registering for a U.S. Department of Education PIN
Students who have never applied for Federal Student Aid, and parents of Dependent Students, are strongly encouraged to apply for their own U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN is used as an electronic signature when completing the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA via the internet. The PIN can also be used as an electronic signature when applying for a student loan. Application for a PIN for anyone who doesn't already have one is available at www.pin.ed.gov.
