Communicable Diseases

SDSM&T is required to provide education regarding AIDS and other communicable
diseases to all participants in the university setting; to ensure that students
with communicable diseases have appropriate access to college facilities and
that their rights to privacy are maintained; to protect the health of the
college community; and, to ensure that appropriate safety measures are in place.
1.
The Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students shall
formulate and implement a campus-wide program of educational activities to
inform the campus community, via lectures, symposia, workshops, video,
literature or other means, about AIDS and other communicable diseases. Such
presentations shall emphasize new medical developments in the prevention and
early identification of such diseases and encompass other appropriate public
health information.
2.
The Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students shall make
available, via the health services program, access to sources for testing for
AIDS and other communicable diseases, and referral to appropriate sources for
follow-up support services.
3.
The confidentiality of all student records, including medical and housing
records, shall be maintained according to the Family Educational Rights and
Privacy Act of 1974 as Amended (Buckley Amendment).
