The health service, which includes medical treatment in the Student Health Office or at a referred service provider is available to all students who pay the Health Fee at Registration each semester. All students are required to complete and return to the Student Health Office a Medical History/Physical Examination Form with the required immunizations documented.
Recent experiences have suggested that students should also be covered by a major hospital-surgical insurance plan while enrolled in college. SDSM&T recommends to all students that they be covered under their parent's or spouse's insurance program, or obtain adequate coverage on their own from an insurance agent. For information about optional student health insurance plans, contact the Dean of Students Office.
Such insurance coverage is mandatory for all international students and their dependents in order to provide them with protection against potentially serious financial difficulties; the only exceptions to this rule are those students who are sponsored by an external agency when the sponsor assumes responsibility for health insurance for the student. In this case adequate, official documentation of equivalent coverage must be provided at registration for reassessment purposes.
