SDSM&T Tablet PC Program
The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is implementing a wireless tablet PC program beginning in Fall 2006 for all incoming Freshmen. In the past several years we have wired the campus, visited other programs to learn from them, and are ramping up for our first year with Tablet PCs.
The tablet PC has all the functionality of a regular laptop. In addition, the screen pivots to become an electronic notepad on which you can write. It is wireless-equipped so that students will be able to access the internet from any of our classrooms or even outside on the quad. Students will also be able to download any of the specialized software for which the School of Mines has site licenses.
All incoming freshmen participate in the program and will be issued tablet PCs. A Tablet Program fee of $363.00 for Fall '07 will be charged to the student to pay for the costs associated with the TabletPC and the Tablet Program. ITS will maintain hard-wired computers available for use in our general purpose computer labs. There is an Opt-In procedure for upper classmen or transfer students who wish to be part of the SDSM&T Tablet Program. If you have questions that are not answered by exploring the links below, please contact Brad O'Brien at Bradley.O'Brien@sdsmt.edu for further information.
