LABORATORY
ORIENTATION OUTLINE
Students are expected to read the appropriate section of
the lab manual before coming to the laboratory.
Test Equipment:
- Test
equipment will be laid out on workbenches prior to lab testing.
- Equipment
will be clean and in good condition before the test begins. Be sure to leave them in same condition
when leaving
- Check
equipment before starting test. Any
damaged equipment should be reported at that time.
- If
additional equipment is needed, ask the instructor. Do not take anything from the shelves
without permission.
Balances and Scales:
- Capacities
are clearly marked. Do not exceed
the capacity of the scales.
- Be
sure that scales are leveled and at zero reading before using.
- Never
weigh anything hot. Wait until it
is cooled off.
- Do
not mix the weights between analog scales.
Do not take any weight from other scales.
Oven:
- Ovens
are set for a constant 110 degree C unless marked otherwise.
- Do
not change the control.
- When
placing samples in the oven, remove the lids so that the sample can dry.
- When
removing samples, must wear gloves.
They are very hot.
- Clean
the cans and return to their proper places.
Sink:
Do not wash the soil down the
sink.
Testing machines:
Read the manual carefully before using any testing
machine.
Be sure to clean the machine
when finished.
