Guide Tour Lab Session II Assignment IE 441 (Monday, 1/26/09)

Continue working through the guided tour (chapter 3). This time make an effort to discuss your progress with your classmates. Most of your assignments will be optional group assignments including the one starting Wedneday. Also, discussing involves different parts of your brain and aids in recall of knowledge. The instructions for the last assignment are below.

(Friday, 1/23/09)
(If Arena is installed in the Lab)

Let's get started on chapter 3, the Arena guided tour.

It is appropriate to start anywhere in chapter 3 you feel comfortable.

Careful people may prefer to read details before approaching the computer. Playful people would like to get started doing things right away. An extraordinarily careful person should read the entire chapter before fiddling with the computer. A very careful person should begin in section 3.1 and dig through the start up details. A moderately careful person should begin in section 3.2 and explore the Arena window. A moderately playful person should start at section 3.3 and begin browsing an existing model. A very playful person should begin section 3.4 start building it yourself.

Alternatively, you could work with the chapter 3 powerpoint slides instead of the book.

In the computer lab Arena starts pretty much how guess it would (Extra hint Start button on lower left corner).
Start Menu> Dept> IE > Arena 10.0 > (gives many options) I assume the directory with Arena 10.0 files is C:\Program Files\Rockwell Software\Arena 10.0, because that would be similar to the previous installation.

When running programs in Arena, you will need to store them on the C: drive or the H: drive (even the example programs) to get them to run with your student accounts.

Your instructor will try to help, if you get stuck. Your friendly classmates may be more helpful and sooner. IE students at SDSM&T students are generally rather friendly.

If you get distracted from your tasks in chapter 3, your instructor will nag you about it. The nagging will be polite and discreet, at first.
